Project: Festival circulars, for Northwest Film Center

Northwest Film Center
Festival circulars

Programming circulars for film series

Pro-bono city. Every month, the Northwest Film Center put up a new series of films, and every month they’d publish one of these to advertise them. We’d wager that almost every designer in Portland had done at least one before Johnson & Wolverton created a smart identity for the center that folded the various circulars into a unified monthly publication (Matt Eller, now of FGA, drove that project). We wish we’d done that.

Film & Video Festival: cover

Circular for the 20th Annual Northwest Film & Video Festival (held in 1993 – this is old, old work). This was a regional festival for regional filmmakers. The fellow wrapped in film on the cover is our college roommate, playwright and actor Nick Zagone. The photograph was made by Rafael Astorga.

Reel Music: cover

Circular for Reel Music, an annual series of films about music and musicians. 1994’s program leaned heavily on jazz musicians, so we got in touch with our inner Reid Miles. An obvious solution, we admit, but this was 1994, before everyone was ripping off Reid Miles.
